I always look forward to these missives.

I no longer vaccinate my dogs as a result of reading Dr. Falconer's material.

I fail to believe that rabies shots are given in the same dose for a small 10 pound miniature dachshund and a 100 pound animal> my current dachshund pup refused to look at me for two weeks after his initial round of vaccinations because he knew.

Something needs to happen about this in the veterinary world and somehow action needs to be taken because it certainly unfair to these animals to have regulated vaccines for rabies by law with the same dosage regardless of size.

I now have my dogs titered before a rabies shot today and then argue, if need be, with the vet. She must be hearing this a lot as she is very responsive.

Good info on this drug. Thank you.

I use homeopathy as well...it should come back in vogue completely for animals and humans.

Hi Doc! My 10 year old Dogo has been doing great on a commercial preparation of "Glandular Support", made from a combination of endocrine and non-secretory organs. I like it because it's not a bombardment of synthetic hormone, but rather a substrate from which her body can choose for specific support, as needed. She has been spayed for 5 years and has not had any issues with weight gain, loss of energy, incontinence, or any of those related issues. It is marketed as safe for dogs and cats, and there is a twin formula for male dogs and cats.

Well, don’t leave us guessing, Mary: who makes it, where can people get it? (sorry it took approving you as you’re commenting for the first time, but now it should be automatic. Nice to hear from you!)

Can anyone buy this product or did you have it specifically made for your pet?

Will Falconer, DVM reading your article reminded me of another one of our dog’s symptoms: the vocalizations. She would walk through the house vocalizing in a way that wasn’t normal for her. It literally seemed like she was losing her mind and “talking to invisible things”. That’s when the vet said he thought it was dementia. Again, never a mention from him about hbp until I finally brought it up. And to think I handed him thousands of dollars over the years only to have to do my own research on behalf of my dogs.

Wow, and if recall, that disappeared on stopping the drug, right?

Yes, within 2-3 days she was back to normal

I used LEAK NO MORE & all natural way to stop urinary leaking. It worked wonderfully

The first week I gave it three times a day like they say to do. It worked!!! I loved this stuff 🩷

I'm not surprised that any pharmaceutical has side effects. I personally try to avoid them like the plague and I choose supplements over them any day. I think this stems from my mother taking DES while I was in utero. Thank you as always for continuing to open our eyes. Suzanne Keffer

Mine only smoked through my in utero experience and all through my childhood. That and zero breastfeeding, so not crazy surprising I’m dealing with IBS now. Did you perceive DES harm, Suzanne?

Interesting that the effect of high blood pressure and agitation with PPA is not well known. It's quite well known in the human medical world where this med was used (is still?) in many cold combination meds.

Will Falconer, DVM's avatar

Yes, though in truth, it’s probably been known but not mentioned much, as seemingly even the vets prescribing it are not advising watching for side effects. High BP can cause all manner of other more obvious symptoms, so even if measuring BP isn’t something widely done in animals, you’d think agitation, disorientation, exhaustion, etc. would be warned about.

So far, equisetum hyemale 6C two times a day has stopped the urine dribble that just recently started occurring in my spayed, middle-aged dog.

I have given Leaks No More to my spayed 12 year old Corgi on two different occasions. The first time she seemed better after taking it for a month, so I stopped giving it to her. She was fine without it for about 1 year, then she started having accidents again. Recently I gave it to her for 1 week and then she was ok again. As of 1 month ago she hasnt had any more leaks. As you’ve mentioned it doesn’t get to the root cause and really fix the issue, but it has helped her get back to normal for a while. I’m not certain how often I’ll need to continue this pattern. Or what else can be done to really help the issue.?

You’re doing fine, Sarah: only repeat briefly when the symptoms return, and stop for as long as she’s asymptomatic. Still palliating, but at least you’ve learned you needn’t dose on and on forever.

Hi Dr. Will,

Great post and info! My 14yr old Westie was found to have hypertension and increased protien in her urine last year and after reseach, we discovered the DES AND PROIN that my former vet had her on was causing it!! My new vet helped me research and take her off both and my alternative vet helped me find this exact product! The Leaks no More has worked great since! Thank you, as always for your shared info!!

I also passed on the rabies vaccine this year and opted for a titer but the lab charged me $250 for it! How can we find a lab in FL or anywhere that will do this for a more reasonable price? My vet said she was going to call the one you listed in your state but wasn't sure they would alllow across state lines. Thank you for any suggestions?

In reality, the ONLY lab running rabies titers is Kansas State, so any outside labs send to them (after charging you a substantial “handling” fee as the middleman). Any vet can set up a free account with KS, and they’ll take blood from anywhere. ~ $50 for a rabies titer!

Would feeding bovine ovaries help at all?

Maybe, but it’d have to be a pretty constant food source, so not practical, I suspect.

And, as I think more about it, hard to establish a good dose. Hormones are powerful, so overdosing wouldn't be desirable…

Have you found glandulars help with incontinence?

I used to use a herbal product for kidney for our dog and it seemed to help. Then they started using plastic and I stopped buying it. Interestingly, she had the nocturnal urination more when she was much younger.

Regarding the DIa browser... I checked it out and I would be very uncomfortable using an AI browser that claims will know you "as well as your closest friends."

I realize we can't get away fro AI, but I won't abet it.

Dr. Will, I replied to your email last night at length, but it wouldn't send. The abbreviated answer is, yes, I had cervical cancer which was, fortunately found early as I was going through infertility studies. Suzanne Keffer

We adopted our dog from the shelter when she was 9 months old. Of course she was spayed immediately upon arrival. She had spay incontinence as a result. We accepted that this was what we were going to deal with forever because we don't give up on our doggos. We had waterproof blankets and reusable puppy pads wherever she liked to lay. We did laundry all the time. It was miserable for her. She'd just lay in her pee unaware it was happening. We didn't use medication for the issue. Oddly no vet we saw ever offered one, and we wouldn't have taken it.

Anyway, we have all our dogs adjusted by a chiropractor regularly. That helped somewhat. Then we met a NAET practitioner who wanted to treat her to see if it could help. NAET on a very basic understanding clears energy blockages in the meridian pathways to help the body resolve issues. People typically use it for allergies but it does so much more than that. It helped me resolve lifetime allergy issues. A year or so of NAET, and she rarely has accidents now. It was such an amazing result. She'll have flair ups if she experiences a major stress, but a NAET visit and a good adjustment sets her right.

Interesting, Jenna. Curious, though: how often were you doing the NAET over the year it took to see this result?
