I wasn’t always this way…
Like every homeopathic veterinarian, I wasn’t “born” this way. I did the whole BS/DVM route and after 6 years in the trenches, emerged with the heady feeling that I was actually going to get paid for doing what I loved.
And those first years in the ‘80’s in God’s Country, Wisconsin (my home state) were pure bliss.
I learned to side step the cow manure, double sleeve my arm when I was reaching into a cow whose placenta had stayed too long, and drive on glare ice.
But delivering calves? In a cozy barn while the Winter wind howled outside, or on a sunny green pasture with my mobile Toyota clinic parked nearby?
I loved every minute of it.
But that’ll have to be expanded upon in the book (ha! when you gonna start, Doc?) or more Substacks in the future.
A leap, a bumpy landing, and a new mindset
I left conventional vet practice after 7 years, not knowing completely why, but following an intuition.
It blew my partners’ minds. And clients, who’d appreciated my work in that mixed practice, seeing upteen dairy cows, a smattering of horses, and pets when I was on emergency duty.
Let’s say the transition was, umm, not smooth, but out of that reckless leap came a holistic retraining and finally the dream practice of homeopathy that I loved even more.
A practice where I could offer actual cures to those poor waifs who’d been damaged by conventional medicine.
Damaged, ironically, most often in the name of “prevention!”
Maybe you’re of a mind to change, too?
I’ve learned a lot in my 40+ years as a vet, and I love to write about those insights with the hope that, if you resonate with them, your animals will benefit like my patients often did.
Others have, apparently.
I absolutely love how you write and give us the information we and our pets need. You entertain and inform at the same time always. — Diana in Portland
I'm truly enjoying my course work and I wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart for delivering this valuable information. Because of you, I'm raising my dogs so differently and I'm proud to say that my last puppy has had one set of vaccines (I couldn't convince the breeder not to) but no more.
I've also noticed at obedience classes that my puppy is different from other dogs. Even though I have a working line bred Dutch Shepherd, my puppy is not hyper, excitable or aggressive. I've inquired to other class participants, who own working line German Shepherd dogs, and are all exhibiting aggressiveness and reactivity. All received three sets of the 4-1 vaccines including the rabies vaccine. I'm wondering if these vaccines, particularly the rabies vaccine are instigating aggressiveness in dogs? [Ed.: you know it]
Again, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for everything you do for us!!

What to expect?
As I’ve already put a small ton of work into my website at Vital Animal, it’s uncertain just how I’ll use this platform.
I like it so far, but I LOVE my website and subscribers there get an issue of Vital Animal News every two weeks.
In every issue come insights on the latest drugs trying to vie for your dollars, the common mistakes my nemesis Dr. WhiteCoat pushes on you, and commentary on how to think about feeding, dealing with pests, and especially the overuse of vaccines.
Maybe I’ll entice you with excerpts in the hope that you’ll subscribe. Early thoughts include short posts that are top of mind, but we’ll see.
All free for now. We’ll see if there’s something special for a paid side, but I’m retired, living in India, and mostly teaching vet homeopathy to my select students in Vital Animal Alpha, a membership which opens for enrollment a couple times a year.
There are courses for those who want to go deeper with me, the goal being to empower you to make wise decisions and “call the shots” for those innocents who depend on you.
Join the Vital Animal Pack!
That’s best done on VitalAnimal.com, where a free library of goodies awaits you, but you can start here with that button below and we’ll see how much juice I’m able to muster to publish here now and again.
I knocked myself out publishing to my blog weekly, and now that I’m retired, I don’t see repeating that pace, but there’s LOTS there for you on my site. Timeless stuff, mostly, as Nature isn’t shifting her opinions every year like conventional medicine seems wont to do.
Also on my site: a handy search field at the bottom of every page. Drop in a phrase or a word and you’ll instantly see what I’ve published about that.
Heartworm? Rabies? Annual vaccines (grrrr)? Pesticides for every pest?
I’ve got you covered. See what you find.
I hope you’ll join me (and watch your animals thrive)
So many years, so much suffering in the animals whose owners have yet to see the light, but also so much inspiration from those whose lives have been changed now.
I want this for you, for your animals.
See you inside!
Thanking you for the great work you are doing and introducing pet owners to Homeopathy.
I am a classically trained Homeopath (now retired) and looking to raise my new pup as holistically as possible (not easy fighting all the conventional wisdom 🤣).
I’ve used Dr Pitcairn’s info for about 25 years, referenced Dr McLeod, etc and used my vet repertory in Radar with some good success. (Even tried my hand with chickens) Looking forward to furthering my pet skills . 🐾

Thank you for sharing your knowledge and enjoyment of life through your prolific writings! I'm so fascinated by how you present homeopathy and healing through your live classes in the Alpha group that I constantly wish I was decades younger so I could study homeopathy for a lifetime, but now is the next best time to get started. What a wonderful group, there.
