Regarding fleas, a bane of existence in South Florida–our Borer collie mix suffers terribly in the summer (in winter, ticks are ascendant). She's a rescued dog we adopted when she was approximately 2 years old. She had all her vaxxes before we got her, but none since. She's been on a raw diet since. It's very difficult to get rid of fleas, especially with wildlife in the area. In desperation I bought the NyGuard you recommend, but the directions and cautions scared me off and it's been sitting in the closet for years. I'm working with Jeff Levy for some other problems she has and hoping homeopathy will help with parasites also.

Thank you for all your hard work!

Yeah, there’s fleas and then there’s flea allergies. Jeff should be able to help that over time. NyGuard isn’t scary, it’s just an insect growth regulator, not supposed to affect mammals at all. Did the label say otherwise?

She doesn't have allergies, just fleas. I re-read the NyGuard insert and it isn't so bad as I remembered. Maybe I'll buckle down and spray it!

Thanks!

Hi Dr. Falconer! Thank you for all of your incredible info! I am currently making my way through your Rabies: Knowledge is Power course, and it is excellent! My little guy was just diagnosed with early stage cataracts. He is 14 years old and 7 lbs. I want to do everything I can to reverse or at least slow the progression. I considered the supplement Ocu-Glo, but I have some reservations as some of the reviewers had concerning side effects reported. He currently takes an excellent microalgae supplement from Biopreparation. It has high levels of astaxanthin, among other vitamins and minerals. Do you have any insight? I know there are some homeopathic remedies that could help. I would appreciate any advice. Thank you so much!

Hey Summer, try as I did, I was never able to cure cataracts with homeopathy, though there's an author citing cured cases from the old days (J. Compton Burnett). Not to say it can't be done today as well, I just never had success and I was treating constitutionally, not focused only on the cataract as Burnett seemed to be.

Your supplements sound fine, and if it's still early stage, I've also heard good things re: n-acetyl cysteine. You can search that and give a dose commensurate with body weight. Should be safe at quite high levels, as it's an antioxidant.

Hi. My dog has glaucoma in one eye which he has been taking drops for and subsequently underwent Pharmacologic ablation to lower eye pressure. Since then, he’s been taking drops in his one good eye to prevent it from spreading. Now my dog’s good eye is failing too. The vet says it’s not glaucoma, but something similar to Macular degeneration and that he will most likely go completely blind. Is there anything I can do to save what remains of my dog’s vision? Im going to visit a homeopathic vet next week.

Forgot to mention my dog has hypothyroidism

Nothing DIY about this, except maybe supportive supplements like zeaxanthin and (sorry, forgot the other, often paired in the same supplement).

But be sure you're not confusing "homeopathic vet" with "holistic vet" as you want someone who's using mostly or only homeopathy in his practice and has been taking on chronic disease and curing some cases. Here's a search to get you started: https://youtu.be/XyEklB8W6M0

I hope you had a nice break but I’m glad to read your newsletter again. I just thought of a question as I was reading your newsletter. I bought parvo and distemper nosodes from you. Can I give them together? Or do I have to separate them and give them separately?

In case you missed the protocol, LL, it's on the same page the nosodes are featured on: https://vitalanimal.com/parvo-distemper-nosodes-kit/

Did you download the protocol? Best given separately, as is true of all homeopathic medicines

I did but I must have not remembered that part. Thanks.

My dog a 12 yo border collie/aussie/lowland sheep mix has had no vaccines in 4 years and only rabies before that 8 yrs ago is suddenly almost bald. She is scratching constantly. I stopped giving her cheap chicken dog food 10 yrs ago and only feed her lamb or beef no grain with raw eggs and raw milk. Nothing helps! I am so discouraged and I know she is very uncomfortable. I dont know what to do, Ive tried everything Ican think of. A bath with chlorine dioxide stops the itching for exactly 2 days. I dont know what to do.

Carefully prescribed homeopathy from a professional who treats chronic disease can cure this. As it's chronic disease, it's far from DIY.

Do you supply the nosodes or other remedies?

I have a horse recently diagnosed with Cushings and don’t want to go the ‘Prascend’ route. Thank you

We provide nosodes from an excellent homeopathic pharmacy. But they aren't going to cure chronic disease. That takes a professional's help. Here's how I'd suggest the search begin for a qualified homeopathic vet: https://youtu.be/XyEklB8W6M0

I'll have to reread it, I knew it was the genus epidemicus for covid, but didn't remember it being for avian influenza too.

Volunteering in a humane shelter causes me to tremble at your caution against neutering. While there could certainly be some issues, the number of euthanasias due the the sheer volume of animals that come into a shelter each year must surely overshadow those concerns. And it’s not just animals that aren’t cared for that find their way into shelters. We get many purebred, well loved animals— many “led astray” by unspayed females. Our state has a policy that no animal can be adopted from a shelter that is not neutered or spayed. That has lowered the number of animals entering just our shelter by 1/3 in the last 10 years—thousands of animals! I’m sure there are problems caused by dogs and cats undergoing the procedures at a really young age, but something has to be done.

Please read the article. It's no small issue, and other countries have nowhere near the issues we have with euthanasia and unwanted animals. Why can't we accomplish what they do?

A more nuanced approach would be to delay neutering based on the current and emerging guidance relating to minimization of cancer/health risk by breed. See this paper: https://sci-hub.se/10.3389/fvets.2020.00388

Hi Dr. Falconer! Any thoughts on a nosode for this H5N1 epidemic?

Will Falconer, DVM's avatar

I think one exists, but more powerful is the genus epidemicus, which likely hasn’t changed: Nux v. Search out my post on that if you’re hearing it for the first time now.

LOL, Nux is hardly a panacea for COVID cases. See following article for how treatment really looked in practice: https://www.thieme-connect.com/products/ejournals/pdf/10.1055/s-0043-1771374.pdf
