Great observation. Guessing the generations of rabies vaccinated dogs might be the top reason. It’s a nervous system virus, so that includes a wide array of effects. Behavior shifts are common. We’ve been at it since the 40’s IIRC.

We did have them at home in Los Angeles in the 60s, and as late as a few years ago, people brought them in from MX. And later in the 70s-90s in NorCal where the counties I lived outlawed them, they would have them at the fairgrounds or park...but unless you lived right next to the park, it wasn't that loud for pets. Either fireworks have also become bigger business, or maybe more people left their pets in backyards and weren't as aware of the terror...or in my case especially, it's just that I finally left California and these other states were always like this...loud fireworks just feet away for days and then the majority not caring how it affects pets.
Where I grew up in Wis, there were few to no home fireworks other than the big show at the beach, and dogs weren't there, as I recall. I grew up with a dog at at time and we had illegal firecrackers, but I also don't recall any big fears then either. 60's to 70's that was.
yes, it's plausible the poorer health of the majority of pets is a factor, a less resilient nervous system, but I think celebrations have changed. It's like Halloween...sure we dressed up as little kids, went to neighbors and got candy etc...but it was kind of no big deal..especially in the Bible Belt where I also lived for a couple of years in High School. It's insane now.
I love seeing photos from India. It reminds me of a time I spent living in Landour, learning Hindi. I would walk down to Mussoorie occasionally to write an email and watch a movie. The rains would come, and everyone would stand under the sills or store overhangs. Sometimes I'd just walk home in the rain.
When I was subscribed to your output years ago via my then "dogsnose knows" substack moniker, I mentioned the TPTSB acronym-speak in an exchange with you, which I see you still use.
Now, from my up-hearted moniker, I offer what I consider an upgraded, higher vibe acronym more accurately describing how I view those entities of lower vibration: *TPTW *- the powers that were. TPTW holds the space that "they" have already lost, and may be a more resonant perspective with your high-hearted views of life flow.
The words we use have power, and I greatly appreciate the life affirming power of your words - and photos - over the years. So keep using whatever words - or acronyms - your heart and intuition tell you to use, you are in the flow, and you serve as example of that state to the rest of us.
Hi Dr. Falconer, this comment isn't related to this Substack post, but I popped in to say thank you for the blog article you wrote a few years ago and helping pets with their transitions off this earth. My soul cat Kendra is going this afternoon..and she has the most extreme terror of vets, and handling in general (even me to a point. She will sit on my lap or snuggle, but doesn't like being picked up, etc). and she has good reason...she was so terrified that 2 different vets actually caused her injury and severe pain when trying to examine her, one broke her tooth and the other tore her ACL...And, my current homeopathic vet believes she has a type of "PTSD" from Ketamine...used in the past to sedate her to be examined in 2 emergencies, unfortunately.
She hasn't been vaxxed etc in over 12 years, she's now almost 14, so at least that didn't assault her nervous system too.
So, I'm thankful for your recommendations and will use all of them in addition to CBD prior to vet coming., other than Bach Walnut... i only have rescue remedy. I do have Ars 30 C and making up a bottle here in a few minutes.
You most likely won't see this comment before it happens, but wondered if there is any common homeopathic remedy for sheer terror, in case the other things don't work enough for her extreme case. The vet who is coming is not the homeopathic one..that one doesn't do house calls.

Sheer terror, with suddenness of onset is usually helped by high potency Aconitum nap, like 10M. As that's not widely available in time for you, a 30C will do. If you have a remedy kit, it should be in there. Dose right before the fear starts and repeat as needed. If no access, Ars will still likely serve your kitty well.

After reading your above comments on "the itch" and the motherboard product I was wondering if the product would work for my son's dog who has terrible raw spot all over her body and has been on topical steroids and Apoquel many times. I believe the problem is profound yeast(fungal) overgrowth. Would it be necessary to get rid of this problem first before starting the Motherboard supplement? Thanks.
No, you start wherever you are. But if kibble is in the diet, you’ll see much better results switching to raw. Then start a detox like Venzeo as well. Kibble is very toxic food.
I have a client who is an infectious disease doctor and she said Ebola doesn't effect people from British ancestry. Opposite is true with noro virus. When I came down with it in Romania, not one person around me got it and the doctor said Balkans don't get it or if they do it is super mild that it mainly effects people with British ancestry.

She had some clients flying in from France to do blood work because they found out that France is using a pesticide and fertilizer made in Brazil that is full of heavy metals and I guess people are getting sick. But you can't get blood work or trust the results in France, or something to that effect. They moved there because it is supposedly cleaner than the US .This is when she told me about Ebola as they had someone coming in with it. An African.

Yes, if sudden terror, Acon is better. Acon is like for earthquake seriousness — their whole world shifted out of fear.
